Woodworking 101

Format: 8 sessions, 3 hours each (24 hours total)
Class size: Small group up to 8 people
Level: Beginners

Course Description

Woodworking 101 is an immersive, hands‑on class where we create a meaningful project from start to finish. Students get to choose from a variety of projects—birdhouses, picture frames, desk organizers, toolboxes, toy cars or animals, puzzles, mini chalkboards, planter boxes and more—and see their ideas come to life. Throughout the class they will:

  • Measure and mark accurately.

  • Cut wood safely using hand tools (no power tools).

  • Nail, screw and glue pieces together.

  • Sand surfaces smooth and apply pre‑finish and finish.

  • Learn basics of technical drawing and reading simple plans.

  • Understand wood types and grain direction.

  • Develop problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.

Philosophy

This course is not about producing an object. It is about becoming someone others can rely on.

At The Craftr, we don’t teach shortcuts, tricks, or recipes. We teach a way of working where process comes first, decisions are owned, and trust is earned through visible action. Every participant is expected to make real decisions, execute them without rescue, and take full responsibility for the outcome. Mistakes are not hidden. Results are not corrected behind the scenes. Nothing is done “just to pass the course.” Because if the process is compromised, the outcome is irrelevantTrust is built when work is transparent, standards are consistent, and accountability is clear. This is why The Craftr is not about woodworking alone. Wood is simply the medium. What we practice here applies to any craft, discipline, or profession: a repeatable process, clear ownership, and professional integrity.

This course follows the same approach at every level. Only the complexity of the work changes —the standard never does.

What You’ll Achieve

By the end of this course, you will have a completed project to be proud of, confidence using hand tools, knowledge of basic joinery, and a solid foundation for future woodworking adventures.
