PRECISION LAB
FORMAT: 8 SESSIONS, 24 TOTAL HOURS
CLASS SIZE: SMALL GROUP UP TO 8 PEOPLE
LEVEL: ADVANCED
Course Description
Precision Lab is the highest level of The Craftr program — a studio-style environment dedicated to fine woodworking, precision, and intentional craftsmanship.
This is not a production class and not a beginner experience. Precision Lab is designed for makers who are ready to slow down, think deeply, and execute work with care. Participants move beyond basic construction into the discipline of fine woodworking: tight tolerances, clean joinery, refined surfaces, and thoughtful design decisions.
Projects are complex, functional, and long-term — such as cabinets, drawer systems, shelving units, stools, or custom-designed furniture components. Every piece is built from raw lumber, with full ownership of the process from concept to finish.
Throughout the course, participants will:
Work confidently with hand tools and advanced power tools in a controlled environment
Develop precise measuring, layout, and alignment skills
Create and refine technical drawings and build plans
Execute fine joinery (dados, rabbets, dowels, box joints, advanced fastening)
Use jigs, clamps, and fixtures to improve accuracy and repeatability
Practice surface preparation, pre-finishing, and multi-step finishing
Learn correction, refinement, and mistake recovery
Present and explain design choices and build decisions
Prerequisites
Precision Lab requires prior woodworking experience and demonstrated readiness for advanced work.
Participants should:
Be comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools
Understand workshop safety and personal responsibility
Be able to follow multi-step plans and work independently
Be prepared for longer build cycles and higher expectations
All tools and materials are provided.
Philosophy
This course is not about producing an object. It is about becoming someone others can rely on.
At The Craftr, we don’t teach shortcuts, tricks, or recipes. We teach a way of working where process comes first, decisions are owned, and trust is earned through visible action. Every participant is expected to make real decisions, execute them without rescue, and take full responsibility for the outcome. Mistakes are not hidden. Results are not corrected behind the scenes. Nothing is done “just to pass the course.” Because if the process is compromised, the outcome is irrelevant. Trust is built when work is transparent, standards are consistent, and accountability is clear. This is why The Craftr is not about woodworking alone. Wood is simply the medium. What we practice here applies to any craft, discipline, or profession: a repeatable process, clear ownership, and professional integrity.
This course follows the same approach at every level. Only the complexity of the work changes —the standard never does.
What You’ll Achieve
By the end of Precision Lab, participants will:
Complete a fine woodworking project with high structural and visual quality
Demonstrate precision, control, and consistent safety awareness
Understand advanced joinery and finishing processes
Develop a craftsman’s mindset rooted in process and accountability
Gain confidence to approach complex woodworking projects independently
