I don’t know about you, but I have A LOT of picture frames around the house. Old, new, modern, vintage, you name it. But sometimes those old ones need a quick update, you know? Read on and I’ll show you a quick and easy fix you can also do for an old frame I found lying around.

All you need for this project is a picture frame, some sandpaper, aluminum tape which I found here for 5$ and an hour or two.

Here’s what you need to do.old wood frame

First thing you have to do is to carefully remove the glass front. We need to do this to give the frame a quick clean. Many picture frames have glass fronts but I’ve seen some with plexiglass also.

The next step for me was to remove the old paint. Grab a piece of sandpaper and lightly give the frame a sanding. Even if the frame is new, this will help the tape stick to it better. It already looks better after a light sanding, doesn’t it? Just remember to clean the dust off of the frame after you’re done sanding.

After that, I started sticking pieces of aluminum tape on the frame. This is where you can improvise and make your own version of this idea. I wanted it to look modern and sleek so I stuck the foil on without crumpling it. But you can make it as simple or as dramatic as you like. Crumple it, sand it down, paint it and distress it or write a message on it, whatever you like.

The last step is to put the glass front back on and put a nice picture (or in my case a hand sketch) inside it and you’re done!

This is a neat little project you can do with the kids over a weekend and it’s really easy too. I’d love to hear how yours went so let us know in the comments below.
